Country music star Travis Tritt criticized people who threaten to leave the United States but fail to follow through with the promise, arguing that the U.S. “must be a pretty decent place.”
“I’m thinking that the USA must be a pretty decent place when those who obviously hate this country keep threatening to leave, but never do,” Tritt posted on Twitter Saturday morning.

Tritt’s comments come the same week singer John Legend said that people might “have to start thinking about going somewhere else” if President Trump wins reelection in November.
“At some point, if that project [to destroy democracy] was to be in any way successful, you’d have to think about going somewhere that is a true democracy, that has respect for the rule of law and human rights,” Legend said in an interview with Cosmopolitan UK.
Legend added, “I strongly believe America is exhausted from three and a half years of Donald Trump. Exhausted from the daily efforts to destroy democracy and the free press.”
At least a dozen celebrities threatened to move to another country during the 2016 election cycle if Trump was victorious, and most still reside primarily and own property in the U.S.
“Advice to all actors, musicians and entertainers: Please stick to your crafts that we all love you for and drop the political rhetoric,” Tritt tweeted in 2017 after a Golden Globes speech from actress Meryl Streep trashing Trump. “Nobody cares or wants to hear what any celebrities have to say about politics. Do your craft and leave politics to the politicians.”
