Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are now facing fury from Democrats as to his handling, or really their creation, of the current border crisis.
This week three Democrat senators, two from the border state of Arizona, criticized the Biden Administration’s handling of the border crisis, The Blaze reported.
“While I share President Biden’s urgency in fixing our broken immigration system, what I didn’t hear tonight was a plan to address the immediate crisis at the border, and I will continue holding this administration accountable to deliver the resources and staffing necessary for a humane, orderly process as we work to improve border security, support local economies, and fix our immigration system,” Democrat Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly said.
“Sen. Sinema has been clear that she — along with Sen. Kelly — wants to see more action from the administration to address the border crisis and support Arizona border communities. She’s spoken directly with administration officials on this,” the office of Democrat Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema said to Fox News.
And the biggest stunner was Democrat Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono who appeared on the PBS show “Firing Line with Margaret Hoover” where the host asked, “Will you urge Vice President Harris, who has been tasked with handling this crisis, to visit the border, as she hasn’t yet been there?”
The senator said that she would “of course” ask Harris to do her job and visit the border. And she said that she “didn’t know” why Harris had not yet done so.
“We have a few other things to deal with, like the pandemic and everything else, so I’m not going to point fingers at her in the sense of — I hope that she will go down to the border,” the senator said. “I hope that we can have a comprehensive, ‘whole of government’ approach to what we need to do to have a humane immigration system.”
“I would call it a crisis,” she said of the migrant surge that is currently taking place at the Southern border.
“We know what is happening,” she said. “So whatever you call it, we’re going to need to deal with it. We’re going to need to address it in a humane way.”
Biden was also criticized by Texas Sen. John Cornyn who was disappointed with the lack of attention Biden gave to the border crisis in his speech.
“I’m disappointed that the President didn’t address this in his speech last evening, and I was hoping he’d be willing to work with a bipartisan group of Senators and Congressmen who are eager to take action,” he said.
“The time to deal with this is now, but like I said until the Administration acknowledges that there’s a problem and that we need to work on it together, it’s going to get nothing but worse,” he said.
Harris had previously defended her lack of attention to the border.
“We’re making progress, but it’s not going to evidence itself overnight. It will not. But it will be worth it, and I will tell you part of my approach to this is we’ve got to institutionalize the work and also internationalize it,” Harris said in an interview with CNN host Dana Bash.
She said she is working with United Nations Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield to have other nations help stem the tide of migrants.
“Because, again, this is about the Western Hemisphere. We are a neighbor in the Western Hemisphere, and it is also about understanding that we have the capacity to actually get in there if we are consistent,” Harris said.
