Former President Donald Trump released a scathing video on Tuesday titled “Surrenderer-In-Chief: Joe Biden lied to America and to the World” blasting President Joe Biden’s first seven months in office, with a focus on how Biden has handled withdrawing American troops from Afghanistan.
The video starts off with a sound bite of Biden saying “America is back” before showing clips of skyrocketing grocery and gas prices, the crisis at the US-Mexico border and the president falling up the stairs as he attempts to board Air Force One.
The video goes on to show shocking footage from Afghanistan, including hoards of people running beside an American military aircraft and a clip of one Afghan citizen falling hundreds of feet after attempting to cling to the wheel of the plane in an effort to escape the country’s impending Taliban rule.
“The likelihood there’s going to be the Taliban overrunning everything and owning the whole country is highly unlikely,” Biden says in the video before more clips showing the Taliban takeover appear behind the text “One Month Later.”
“First of all, the mission hasn’t failed,” Biden says. “Yet.”
The video continues to unfold with clips of the Taliban beating women, Afghan citizens crying and Vice President Kamala Harris laughing, as well as footage of Chinese troops played behind a sound bite of a news anchor noting that “China is ready for friendly relations with the Taliban.”
“Joe Biden promised Americans a future of growth, strength, diplomacy, and power. He told us ‘America was back.’ Instead, he withdrew troops from Afghanistan before removing our weapons, our allies, or even our own citizens,” Trump wrote on his website along with the video. “Joe Biden has backed down to our enemies and failed to protect our allies. Under Joe Biden, the Taliban is back – not America.”
“This is not the America we know. The media refuses to blame Biden for the destruction and tragedy he’s caused – but we will hold him responsible,” Trump continued. “We can show America the truth, and it’s up to YOU to make sure everyone sees this.”
As of Wednesday morning, the Biden administration has still not released the number of Americans who have been evacuated from Afghanistan, though Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said on Tuesday approximately 4,000 had been evacuated. According to an official with direct knowledge of evacuation efforts, Biden could leave thousands of Americans behind enemy lines if he sticks to his deadline to remove all U.S. troops from the country by August 31.
