Los Angeles County Health Department has issued a new mask edict to residents for public transportation in the county. It requires masks on all forms of public transportation, including buses, trains, and ride-hailing service vehicles.
Just when you thought everything was looking up.

LA County has more than 10,000,000 residents, making it the most populous county in the country. Which ones will be most affected by the latest order? It’s obvious. The working class, the lower and middle classes, and minorities. Most residents of Beverly Hills or Brentwood won’t be riding the Los Angeles subway or bus. Even those people will need to cover up at the airport, just like everyone else. However, I think no one will bother the private jet crowd.
Who is in control of these 10 million people’s lives? Dr. Barbara Ferrer is the one who has held LA residents captive for over two years. Ferrer, who John Philips of KABC calls the “fake physician” because she does not hold an actual MD has a Ph.D. and a Master of Arts (Public Health) as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Community Studies).
Phew. That’s quite a bit of schooling. While it’s impressive, you don’t want to see her in the operating rooms. Jennifer Van Laar, RedState’s reporter, reported in 2020 that local officials were concerned about her lack of qualifications for the job as Director.
ABC7 Eyewitness News reports:
Ferrer expressed her regret that the new county order would likely cause confusion among residents who feel a sense of “whiplash” from rapidly changing rules. Ferrer noted that the CDC had not changed its recommendations on mask-wearing in public transit. She said the Florida court ruling was made “by a federal judge with very little experience in public healthcare” and questioned the CDC’s authority.
She is truly sorry. Puh-lease. If you ask me, she always seems to find a perverse joy in these announcements.
Whiplash is a common problem in the United States. L.A. has just announced this new requirement, while Philadelphia has dropped their indoor one. It’s no wonder that people are spinning their heads.
CNN just surprised Ferrer by giving him a hard time today. You can listen to the audio here.
I reported Tuesday that opinions regarding masks for public transport vary greatly by party affiliation. Fully 80 percent of Democrats support mask mandates on planes. Only 33 percent of Republicans agree.
The New York Times made an astonishing admission today in “The Morning” newsletter.
One of the most striking examples (of the partisan split) in the U.S. was that liberal communities where masks have been a beloved symbol of solidarity have seen nearly as much Covid spread as conservative communities where masks have been hated as a symbol of oppression.
Oh. My. Gosh. They have just admitted that masks are a beloved liberal symbol of solidarity. I don’t know what to say.
One thing is certain: those who have enjoyed power don’t want it back. They will seize any opportunity to impose new laws, mandates, or requirements.
