Far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) suggested last week that the United States was responsible for problems around the world, including flooding that happens in foreign countries.
Omar made the remarks in Washington, D.C., while speaking at a Democracy Now and Rising Majority event at Howard University.
“And so when, um, when we think about it now in Congress we’re having a conversation about cross-border, um, uh, negotiations happening for workers because all of our destinies are tied together,” Omar claimed. “When you see a Somali refugee or an Iraqi refugee or a Libyan refugee, we often are like, ‘Oh, this is my neighbor, they must have survived some struggle.’”
“We don’t ever pause to think, what American policy made them come over here, right?” Omar continued. “When you see a flooding happening, um, in a country abroad and you are, um, urgently raising money for the these lives to be saved, you don’t think about how have I contributed to the climate warming that has led to these [flash] floodings and these catastrophes that are taking place abroad.”
“And so when we are now thinking about a new way of re-imagining a vision of what our foreign policy should be and, as I will introduce next week our pathway to peace in thinking about the world, it is important for us to have these connections between what sanctions could mean for the the destruction of life,” Omar continued.

The Washington Free Beacon further noted that later in her remarks, Omar “also argued that Americans should worry about jobs going overseas, not because that reduces employment opportunities for them, but rather because it means people in countries such as Mexico will be subjected to the exploitative practices of American corporations.”
Omar also faced backlash last week over a tweet where she pushed the notion that all student debt should be canceled by comparing U.S. soldiers who have fought in wars to modern day students.
The Daily Wire reported: “On Thursday, far-left Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, in an attempt to push the idea that all student debt should be canceled, compared college students to the veterans who have fought for America in wars from World War II to present-day Afghanistan, retweeting a quote that stated, ‘Imagine what it would do for our country and those who live here if we were to take the ethos behind the original G.I. Bill and apply it to everybody — canceling all student debt and making public colleges, universities, and vocational schools tuition-free.’”

The Daily Wire continued, “The GI Bill was passed by Congress in 1944. Warren Atherton, the National Commander of the American Legion, noted the varied resolutions adopted by the Legion at their 1943 National Convention in Omaha, and discussed them with Francis Sullivan, the Legion’s Acting Legislative Director. Atherton said later, ‘Francis Sullivan told me that our most urgent problem was for right then, not later. Cash was needed for disabled, discharged veterans. Hundreds were being released weekly without a cent in their pockets and no provision for support or care. Hundreds of thousands of service records had already been destroyed in little incidents on land and sea. Under then existing laws, the services were not paying discharges whose records weren’t in order. Service pay for some was a year and more in arrears.’”
